Baume & Mercier Men's Capeland Black Automatic Watch 8384 By: Baume & Mercier ![]() Price: Sale: $1245.00 Prices subject to change Product Description: Elegantly refined in style, this Baume & Mercier Capeland automatic men's watch (model 8384) blends classic timepiece design with sleek modern lines. A great match for the active gentleman, it's also a worthy complement for black tie evenings and boardroom meetings. Both the watch case and the bracelet band are made of high-grade stainless steel, with the band composed of three columns of links (with a wider center column) and joined by a hidden, folding clasp. The brushed silver watch case measures 39mm wide (1.54 inches) and it's topped by a brushed, gray bezel. The black dial features a full Arabic numeral display in stylized Roman script, a slate gray small seconds subdial above 6 o'clock, small minute indexes on the outer rim of the dial (also in slate gray), and luminous, dagger-shaped silver hands. Other features include a date window at 3 o'clock, screw-in fluted crown, and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. This watch comes with a certificate of authenticity. The dial is stamped with the Greek letter Phi (Φ) at 12 o'clock, which symbolizes the harmonious lines and a perfect balance in design that Baume & Mercier constantly strives for. It's long been used to denote the golden number, or ratio, which suggests a natural balance between symmetry and asymmetry. An automatic (or self-winding) watch is fitted with a device (rotor) that automatically winds the spring by using the force of gravity. It needs no battery, but it will stop if you have been physically inactive for an extended period of time. Remember--as long as you're moving, the watch will keep moving. Swiss watchmaker Abraham-Louis Perrelet invented the self-winding mechanism in 1770. It worked on the same principle as a modern pedometer, and was designed to wind as the owner walked. The Geneva Society of Arts reported in 1776 that fifteen minutes walking was all that was necessary to wind the watch sufficiently for eight days. About Baume & Mercier |
